We are currently looking to expand our Home Pet Nurse service in select areas in Ontario. Our Registered Veterinary Technicians are trained to support the needs of pets and their pet parents by providing in-home patient care.
Position Summary
We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician who lives in Markham, ON to join our team as a part-time/casual independent contractor. This position reports directly to our co-founders. Your role as a Registered Veterinary Technician will be to provide in-home treatments and procedures to pets in Markham and surrounding areas, including but not limited to Richmond Hill and Scarborough. The Registered Veterinary Technician ensures the well-being of patients through delivery of high-quality care consistent with their scope of practice. All services are delivered in accordance with our organization’s mission, vision, values, and policies.
Duties
Maintains a patient, humane, and caring attitude towards patients, handling them safely and with care
Performs a wide range of in-home treatments and procedures including, but not limited to, administering medications and injections, checking vitals, blood glucose curves, blood and urine collection, ear cleanings, expressing anal glands, nail trims, sanitary shaves, bandage changes, and range of motion or physiotherapy exercises as prescribed or directed by a licensed veterinarian
Recognizes deviations from normal health or behaviour, reporting any abnormalities to the pet parent and referring to their veterinarian when applicable
Documents all in-home services performed and reports cases of neglect or abuse when necessary
Addresses pet parent questions and concerns pertaining to services provided
Assists pet parents with their pet’s post-operative care
Educates pet parents on proper patient care
Responsibilities
Respects and maintains client confidentiality
Remains knowledgeable about federal and provincial laws related to animals
Represents VetGo in a professional manner while interacting with pet parents
Fulfills obligations by demonstrating integrity, responsibility, reliability, and ethical practice
Qualifications
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Diploma required
Registered and in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT) required
Minimum 3 years experience in veterinary technician role working in a veterinary hospital setting
Reside in Markham
Access to reliable transportation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Knowledge of patient safety and palliative care
Knowledge of medications administered to patients
Ability to problem-solve and make decisions effectively
Provides own equipment
Passionate about helping pets and their pet parents
Ability to adapt to patient and pet parent needs
Fear Free Certification is an asset
RECOVER CPR Certification is an asset
Google Suite proficiency is an asset
Criminal Record Check must be provided upon being hired
Benefits
$30.00 per hour
